Algorithms for a better world?

The internet and social media have made us aware of this: Our lives are increasingly determined by algorithms. However, these have been around since the ancient Greeks. The sieve of Eratosthenes (300 BC), for example, determined a list of all prime numbers. Today, it is impossible to imagine life without algorithms, and it is more important than ever that we can trust them to work in our interests.

Medical algorithms

Medicine also knows healing algorithms. They condense knowledge accumulated over years from individual cases. We can trust that they work in our interests, have been carefully developed and are supervised by a functioning regulatory body. That is why we can enter the treatment of medicine with a clear conscience.

Economic algorithms

With the increasing presence of health economics, new algorithms and new processes have emerged in medicine itself and in the interaction with it. Can we rely on them to work in our best interests? Can we be sure that they have been carefully developed and are supervised by a functioning regulatory body?

Problem

We note that with the current system, which gives insurers too much leeway, these questions cannot be answered with a clear yes - they are rarely asked at all. We see an acute need for action here, in the interests of patients and in the interests of policyholders and premium payers.
